Pride Month at First Church In Belfast

June 1, 2025

We are celebrating Pride this month!  As an Open and Affirming Church since 2012, we remember our covenant to both welcome and affirm our LGBTQ+ members, as well as our commitment to stand up for their rights. This year we especially wish to call attention to the ways our queer and trans community are being targeted.

Our Social Justice Committee invites you to join us in Augusta to stand up for these rights. Please join us for a public witness of our faith in action.

Please also join in the annual Pride Parade 6/7 by marching or sitting at our table in Heritage Park. Both are good ways to show our support by letting people know they are welcome and safe here in Belfast.

Rev. Derek A. Terry, Executive Director of UCC Open and Affirming (ONA) Coalition, reminds us that “Pride has always been a protest — a declaration of joy, resistance, and survival. And this year, with World Pride happening in Washington, D.C. — the very seat of the bigotry and policies causing so much pain — it’s even more critical that we show up boldly, visibly, and together. The church must not be silent. Our presence is a witness that God’s love is intersectional, liberating, and radically inclusive.”
