Senior College – Redwork

Illustrating Nature In Redwork Embroidery is a spring 2024 Senior College at Belfast course hosted at First Church in Belfast.
Beginning with a historical review of embroidery and redwork, popular in the 1800s, we will create a two panel quilted piece of native flora or fauna of our choice. Participants will choose images of chosen subjects and transfer the designs to cloth. Using basic redwork stitches — back, running, stem and French knots as different line quality for the images, we will then quilt the panels with a border.
Participants will also create individual stitch samples and online “stitch book.”
This class is for anyone that enjoys flora and fauna, wild and not-so, large and small. Anyone new or experienced with embroidery is welcome. Come prepared to do some creating, cooperative learning and sharing.
